LOCATION of women in QLD prisons and detention centres:
As of June 2003, female prisoners in Queensland are held in two secure facilities and two open facilities operated by the Department of Correctives Services as well as a number of community correctional facilities. The Department of Family Services operates one Youth Detention Centre with the capacity to house sentenced and remanded young women aged between ten to seventeen. These facilities are:
Secure Custody
- Brisbane Women's Correctional Centre, Capacity 246
- Townsville Women's Correctional Centre, Capacity 40
Open Custody
- Townsville Women's Farm, Capacity 35
- Numinbah Women's Farm, Capacity 25
Youth Detention
- Brisbane Youth Detention Centre, Capacity 18
